Bombshell Concert ‘Smash’ed It! ~ Smash Stars Reunite ~Entertainment ~Music

If you are a big musical fan, as I am, then I am sure you have watched the TV series ‘Smash’.

Smash was first broadcast on the 6th February 2012 until 26th May 2013 by the American network NBC. The creative team for the show included Marc Shaiman and Steven Spielberg.

Smash was based on the story of two lyric and songwriters Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and Tom Levitt (Christian Borle) who, together with producer Eileen Jones(Anjelica Huston) and director Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) try to put on a Broadway musical ‘Bombshell’ based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. The two actresses competing to play this iconic part are the stage experienced Broadway veteran Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and the inexperienced novice Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee). Many dramas, both on and off stage, ensure the high impact drama with fabulous songs. There are many other characters lives entwined in the show and guest appearances include Bernadette Peters, Jennifer Hudson, Uma Thurman and even Liza Minnelli!

Sadly it was cancelled by NBC in 2013 but its legions of fans have never let them forget it. For years fans have called for the show to be reprised and both Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee have expressed their desire to get back into the iconic shoes of Ivy Lynn and Karen Cartwright.

The fire for the ‘Get back Smash’ was stoked this week as People.com showed the ‘One Night Only Bombshell in Concert’ to raise money for ‘The Actors Fund’

If you have watched the series then you know you have to pick a side! You have to be #teamivy or #teamkaren I am definitely team Ivy all the way! Ivy Lynn is the quintessential image, in my eyes, of Marilyn Monroe.

The concert reminded me how much I enjoy the music of ‘Bombshell’ and ‘Smash’ and I actually own the DVD and the CDs of the series and show and watch and listen regularly.

I am therefore delighted to announce that Steven Spielberg is in talks to take ‘Smash’ to Broadway! I would love to see most of the television cast appear on the stage and hope that the musical transfers to London West End.

I would love to know what you think! Did you see the concert? Did you watch the series? Are you ‘Team Ivy’ or ‘Team Karen’? I could talk ‘Smash’ all day so hit me with your questions and observations.

I will leave this post with the song that ends ‘Bombshell’ with ‘Don’t Forget Me’. Do not worry we certainly wont!
