Today is 23rd March 2021 and this marks the first anniversary of the UK going into full lockdown due to Covid 19. So today is the first national day of reflection, not only to mark the county going into lockdown but also in remembrance of the many lives that have been lost over the last year.
Today will be marked nationally by a minute’s silence at 12noon, followed by bells ringing straight after and prominent landmarks are due to be lit up across the country at 8pm.
I do not know about you but this last year has played havoc with my emotions. I have always been emotional but this time last year I am not ashamed to admit I was terrified. I was scared to step outside my door and as I have older members of my close family was frightened what the future held for them. I remember that almost as soon as the lockdown started the weather turned beautiful. It seemed as if nature was mocking us and you could not believe that a day as beautiful as the spring weather was, the air was carrying a deadly virus.
I know some people’s lives have been absolutely devastated by the virus, losing friends and family, livelihoods and careers.
After a year and with the distribution of the vaccine, which I have had already, I am hoping that tides are turning and there really is a rainbow starting to break through after the storm but at the moment it is very faint and hopefully as time goes on the rainbow will get brighter and brighter.
Please take today to spend a few minutes of reflection and remember those we have lost, the people who are fighting so hard on our behalf and how much our lives have changed and the things we can take into the future.
Some times taking reflection can lead to feelings and memories resurfacing. I wrote a blog post in April last year, and gave helplines that may be of use to people now as it was back then. https://overtherhinestonerainbow.blog/2020/04/07/when-it-rains-look-for-rainbows%f0%9f%8c%88-helplines-feelings-corona-covid19/
Always remember that no matter the situation or how you feel you will not be the only one. You are not alone.
How are you planning on reflecting today? #NationalDayofReflection Sending love to you all.
