Steampunk and Artisan Market ~Newark

Just catching a few minutes rest I thought I would update you on my late August bank holiday heading to Newark’s Steampunk and artisan market.

As we were going early we stopped at Damon’s in Lincoln for breakfast. I love Damon’s as it usually means there is an adventure happening. We therefore use it to set us up for the day if heading for an event around Lincoln. Word of warning as I wanted a booking for nine and the only time they could offer was eight or eight thirty. Definitely glad I booked as I am not sure they would had managed to get a table and it is a long way to be refused.

This weekend it is ‘The Lincoln Steampunk Asylum’. Usually held in Lincoln I have attended the festival for years seeing its growth from the Lawns to the huge event of many venues it is now. However this year Covid has put paid to the event in Lincoln and the organisers tried so hard to continue the event at another venue but this, through no fault to organisers, fell through.

The organisers decided there would be an informal meet up of steam punks on bank holiday weekend in Newark. People could meet up with friends and be splendid, if they required after a very tough year.

Pirate Mick and I have not been for quite a while and I had forgotten how lovely it is. There are many eating and drinking establishments with something for every taste and budget. Some lovely different shops as well as some high street names. There is also a lovely river and castle to look around.

After breakfast Pirate Mick and I headed towards Newark as there was advertised a Steampunk and artisan market in the market square. The stalls were fantastic, such a variety and I must admit I spent some pennies on sparkly bits. There were also some delicious cakes which called my name!

Everybody looked splendid and every single person we spoke to was so friendly and welcoming.

It really felt like our kind of normality was returning and we both had the best time.

What Is Steampunk?

Many people ask about Steampunk and there is a blog post that I have published that has a link to explain.

Hopefully next year there will be a return of the huge Asylum festival and if I have piqued your interest, maybe see you there!
