I love Whitby!!! ~Travel ~DaysOut ~Yorkshire ~ThingsToDo

A question for you! Have you ever been to Whitby, UK? If you have I bet you left a little bit of your heart there, waiting for you to return some day.

I always wanted to visit Whitby but it took quite a long time before Pirate Mick and I actually went to stay in Whitby, I am not really sure why but it just seemed one of those places we promised ourselves to go but never actually got round to going!  Once we had been though I was annoyed with myself that it had taken so long to visit as I just adore the quaint seaside fishing town with nods to the gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

We have now stayed many times and one of the hotels which deserves a special mention is ‘Saxonville Hotel‘ Ladysmith Avenue, Whitby  which is near the town football club and close to the ‘Met Hotel’, the Leisure centre and spa.
It is a lovely hotel, albeit quaint old fashioned hotel and has the added benefit of a car park across the road, which is handy when you have lots of luggage to carry to your room!! Something to note is that Whitby is notorious for finding car parking spaces.  Something to consider if you are thinking of visiting, especially in the season or on the many special days that occur throughout the year.  If you get there early enough there is car parking at the Leisure Centre or at The Abbey and, at the time of writing this, there is a bus that takes you into town.

Pirate Mick and I have so many great memories of Whitby, including chasing a skull balloon down the road in the middle of the night,  Pirate Mick attracting the attention of an unwanted admirer at a masked ball, watching great bands and performers at the goth festival, spending a fortune at the stalls and shops, running up the steps (there are 199) to the abbey at midnight, eating at the infamous Magpie restaurant, partying with real life vampires and making many new friends and memories.

One of the bands we always like to try and catch the group ‘Dyonisis’ who often performed at the goth festivals. If you have not heard this group then I recommend you listen to them on ‘You Tube’. Dyonisis    I am not sure how you would describe their music, gothic pop maybe? What do you think?

As I have mentioned above I do not think there was been many times we have not eaten at the ‘Magpie’.  You can not miss it, it is the black and white building near the fishing harbour usually with the long queue to get in.  It is worth the wait though I promise!! I always have haddock and chips but if you want to try something else there is a huge selection of different fish including John Dory or Woof!!!

Another place you Must try is Botham’s. Again another queue but worth it for the amazing cakes.  Oh I also adore  Sherlocks This is an amazing tea room.  If  you have a vivid imagination, like I do, then you can almost imagine Sherlock Holmes having a cup of tea here and investigating a murder in the back room!!

Here are some photographs that show just a few times we have visited Whitby incorporating the goth festival which was founded in 1994 and usually happens in April and November.

As you can tell I adore Whitby.  I would love to hear your stories if you have been. What would you recommend to do whilst there or in the Yorkshire area.
