It Was A Jump To The Left At The Rocky Horror Picture Show ~Review ~Cinema ~Musical ~Entertainment

Well on Thursday night Pirate Mick, myself and my lovely friend, had an evening of absolute pleasure! Not a normal Thursday night but a glorious feast for eyes and soul!  Or may be your Thursday’s are always a glorious feast who am I to judge!!

The Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes have a throw back Thursday.  They show films that people have loved over the years and for a wonderful bargain price of £5.00.

I was so excited when I saw they were showing ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’.  I have seen it many, many times on the television but never on the big screen.

I was at work during the day and so it was a tight turnaround but I managed to get ready on time, put on my warm faux fur coat and was soon waiting with anticipation.

The screening was amazing. I made me realise how much of the film you miss when you watch it on the television. All the colours shine off the screen and the music and every sound effect can be heard and felt.
For the screening we brought our own props and joined in with the classic time warp dance. ‘It’s just a jump to the left..’.
Audience participation is obviously more in the live shows but there was still some at the screening from a lot of the audience.
I judge my enjoyment of a film on how often I look at my watch and I never once looked at my watch  as my eyes and my soul was drinking in the wonderful visual and audio feast.

Have you seen the original film?  I know it is not every bodies cup of tea. It has a taste of science fiction, hammer horror and theatre. Even today it can be seen as shocking. Brad and Janet sleeping with Frank and the murder of Eddie.  Some how you should not want to like the characters but what I would not do to spend an evening with FranknFurter.

As you are aware I love musicals so not surprising I loved it on that level as the songs are fabulous.  The show was written by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brian, who is gloriously different. Remember him in the Crystal Maze?.  In the show he plays Riff Raff .  There is also an appearance by Christopher Biggins!  Did not I say this film is amazing!!

I am also a little in love with Tim Curry as FranknFurter. The pale face, the make up, the hair, the corset and the fish nets. When I saw the live screening of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ in 2015, commemorating 40 years release, I also fell a little in love with David Bedella.  Is it the actors or am I secretly a Frankie fan and in love with the character?

The musical is often seen as not mainstream.  It is often quoted as being a bit strange or weird. I am not mainstream and probably why I love it so.  It reminds me of a quote I saw.

I am Different.  Always have been.  It took a while but I have now accepted that I am a magic not meant for everyone to understand.  So that makes them question and that is okay.  I will stay being me.

I will be me and you will be you and that is okay!
