I adore eating out and obviously due to the pandemic this has not happened since October last year!! Seven months without sitting down in a restaurant is unbelievable, however stepping back into the Kingsway Hotel, Cleethorpes I soon got back into the swing of things.
I have blogged before in 2017 Review of Dinner at ‘The Kingsway Hotel’ Cleethorpes ~ Lincolnshire ~Food ~Review when I mentioned although the food was superb the décor was clean but dated.
Well it just so happens that the Kingsway Hotel has recently acquired new owners and this has meant undergoing a full refurbishment.
Quite a lot was accomplished during lockdown and whilst keeping the character and charm of the hotel it feels fresh, bright and more modern.
There is plenty of parking, both under cover and outside the garage. If you are staying in the hotel please check for an overnight parking charge.
On arrival we were shown to the lounge area and given the lunch and drinks menus to browse. Somebody came over to the table to take our drinks order and then our food order separately.
You can also order from the extensive wine list and now they have a cocktail menu.
There is a jug of tap water, butter and melba toast to enjoy as an aperitif or with your starter.
Speaking of starters I ordered a baked goats cheese, with grilled red peppers, lemon and rocket. It was absolutely delicious, melt in the mouth and was just right size for a starter.
For mains I had the chicken with mushroom sauce and dauphinoise potatoes. Again this was presented beautifully and a large size. The vegetables are now brought in serving dishes to the table for you to serve yourself. I much prefer this as you can decide how much you require and then add if you want throughout the meal.
For dessert I had the warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. This was wonderful. Not sickly, as often found in chocolate desserts, and just the right mixture of chocolate and ice cream.

The cost for two courses is £26.95 and for three courses is £29.95 so you really have nothing to lose, and maybe something to gain, by having the dessert!!
We finish the meal with hot coffee, and mints.
Sitting in the window of the lounge and the dining room, which are both at the front of the hotel, are a popular with locals in Cleethorpes. Everybody likes a window seat for a bit of people watching and even ships in the night!
Due to the renovations there is now a new room named River Room, that caters for private parties, seating around 24 guests. So if you are looking for a meal, a get together or even a night or two by the sea then ‘The Kingsway Hotel’ should be one to definitely consider.
I had an absolutely lovely lunch and will be back in the very near future.
Have you eaten here recently? Love to hear your views on venues that you would recommend where you live.
