The Counting House ~ Cleethorpes ~ Eating After Lock Down

Hello lovelies,

For regular readers of my blog you may have seen some blog posts of mine about the venue‘The Counting House’ in Sea View Street, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, before.  Here are a quick couple of links to them to remind you : Pirate Afternoon Tea  and Tipsy Tapas

As it so happens the Pirate afternoon tea was the last time Pirate Mick and I were out in a bar or restaurant before the UK was placed on Covid19 lock down.  It therefore seemed logical that it should be one of the first venues we visited when it reopened six months later.

I booked a table for two online the day before our desired date and on the morning of the booking somebody rang from the venue to confirm we would still be attending.

On arrival at ‘The Counting House’ we saw that car parking was not available outside the venue or in Sea View Street, the street it is situated on.  There is a small free car park at the top of the street on Alexandra Road and a larger car park behind the venue in Wardall Street.

On entry to ‘The Counting House’ you are directed to one of the sanitiser stations before being greeted by a masked waitress and  asked to fill in the  tack and trace form with your name and telephone number.  You are then shown to your table, following the barrier around the outside of the room, past the bar, with the bar man wearing a face mask, and into the dining area.  Some tables have been removed to comply with social distancing.

We had a table for two and browsed the laminated, slightly reduced menu before our order was quickly taken with Pirate Mick deciding on a pie with vegetables whilst I went for a small margarita pizza with chips.

Cutlery, condiments and drinks are brought to your table on a tray are you are asked to remove them yourself to avoid contamination.

It did not take long for the order to arrive and both meals were hot and tasty and we both agreed that it was very filling.

However, I did manage to make way for a cocktail, or two!! I was only going to have one but the waitress said it was an offer and I could not have just one, so with my arm twisted I had two!  One was a Bailey’s based cocktail and the other a Toffee Vodka so practically dessert!!  They did have an exceptionally lot of ice in them but both were very nice.

The restaurant and bar had got quite busy during our time there but at no time did we feel anxious or worried by other people, everybody was treated with the same rules and regulations and both tables inside and outside are table service.

At the end of the meal the bill was presented and it is requested that you pay by card.  The bill came to just over £30.00 and we both agreed that it was lovely to get out, safely, amongst people again.

What have you missed during lock down?  Are you starting to go out to the same places as before or have you made a change this year?  I would love to know.
