The Eyes Have The Power ~ Turkish Eye

‘An ancient Anatolian belief reflected in glass as the figure of an eye has always been considered a powerful magic in all cultures and religious faiths in eliminating evil’- Kas, Kalkan Coffee Break

People traditionally attach the bead of the evil eye to things, items and people who they want to protect and I was advised to pin them to my curtains at home to protect the home and occupants from evil. A typical eye in Turkey is made of handmade glass featuring teardrop or concentric circles in dark blue, white, light blue and black.

If for whatever reason the eye breaks then it supposedly means someone has sent evil thoughts to you, your home or family and the eye must be replaced to carry on the protection.

Throughout my many visits to Turkey I have acquired many Turkish eyes, from purchasing them from shops or by given one by shop keepers and waiters , and you will find them dotted around my apartment.

I also give them as small gifts and enjoy telling people the protection it gives.

Do you believe in the magic of the eye?  Are there are traditions that you believe in or follow? I would love to hear from you!
