Kalkan, Turkey is my happy place. Kalkan is a beautiful harbour resort at the foot of the Taurus mountains along the beautiful Lycian coast.
Sadly, due to Covid, this year Pirate Mick and I will not be going, which is a shame as the last couple of years for other circumstances we have also been unable to go.
However we are so lucky that we have great friends in Kalkan and feel like that when we can return we will do to friends and family, rather than just a hotel.
We have stayed in Kalkan many times and each time have been blown away by the beauty of the place. We have always stayed at Diva hotels, either the Hotel Dionysia or Diana apartments attached to the hotel. Hotel Dionysia has great reviews on Trip Advisor if you would like to take a look.
I reviewed the apartment when we stayed there last time. It could be classed that I am a little biased when it comes to reviewing as the hotel and apartments are run by friends but I stand by my review and opinions and would not recommend anything I was not 100% happy with and I was 100 and 10% happy!!
I have copied the review for you here:
On arrival at Dalaman airport we were transferred by Brave Tours taxi, organised by Southern Turkey Ltd and received a much needed cold bottle of water, a rolled up refresh towel and a beautiful Turkish towel/sarong that has so many uses and has washed really well. No hassle, arrive de-stressed and in style for no extra cost.
We were allocated apartment 3, Diana apartment, part of the Diva hotel complex (how apt is that name??).
The outside of the apartments is beautifully decorated with bougainvillea growing on the balcony, and as I later found handy for a little furry visitor, when encouraged, to come and visit!!! Two small chairs and a table on the balcony were in constant use for after dinner drinks. You could also squeeze another chair onto the balcony for a guest.
A private entrance takes you into the cool apartment. Air con, in the bedroom, and a large fan are included. Marble floors with rugs throughout. Two settees, one of which can be pulled out into an extra
double bed, side tables, lamps, dining chairs and table.
The kitchen has a large fridge, kettle, sink, hob, dishwasher, pots and pans and cutlery. It also has a juicer to make fresh orange juice. A welcome hamper is included and that has all you need for a few days and will definitely get you through breakfast the next day- Turkish style.
The bathroom has toilet, sink, shower and a washing machine. The apartment is cleaned daily, to a very high standard.
In the bedroom, there is plenty of storage, large bed, lots of soft pillows, dressing table and side tables.
Leading from the bedroom is a small balcony with a clothes horse to dry your clothes and hang out swim wear and towels. Two beach towels were also included in the apartment to use by the pool.
The swimming pool is a few seconds across the very quiet road and down some steps. There are plenty of sunbeds, parasols, tables and a bar serving lovely food and drink until 8pm. The pool is shared by the hotel, apartments and villa.
I would like to provide a little ‘what more could be done’ or ‘done differently’ but honestly I do not know. I have had the most amazing holidays there. It seems to be, dare I say it, perfect!!
As I stated at the beginning of this post things have changed in 2020. Different countries have different policies and procedures to deal with the Corona outbreak. Things can change daily and some countries are more strict on their policies than others so I urge you to read everything you can and check and double check.
I know the hotel is open for business and I am sure would be pleased to discuss any concerns with you as well as your travel agent.
How about booking for next year when hopefully things have settled down and we can look forward to getting back to all our happy places!!
Where is your happy place? Do you have one? Do you have a favourite holiday destination or do you like a different destination each time you travel?
I would love to know.
